The Harmony Mountain Story

Cultivating Dreams, Sowing Sustainability

We're Bill & Cindy Gay. Welcome to our little slice of heaven. We come from humble beginnings in the suburbs of Central Connecticut, and lived a more conventional lifestyle for most of our lives. Our introduction to the New Hampshire North Country was first as outdoors enthusiasts and travelers. After our kids were all grown up and living their own lives, we'd travel up here every weekend. We spent so much time in the North Country, we found ourselves thinking about the possibility of moving up here and changing our lives entirely. That's how Harmony Mountain Farm was born.

We wanted to live a more sustainable life that supported our ideals and commitment to growing and producing healthy food. After years of questioning the food system in our country, the deteriorating quality of life for so many and the environmental impact of unethical food practices — we found ourselves wanting to do things differently. We thought long and hard about the possibility of our own farm — and so we came up with a plan.

At first, we worked with horses and raised our own suburban laying hens. But that's about as far as things went in Connecticut. Our dream really began to come to fruition when we landed in Lancaster, New Hampshire on our now 260 acre property with beautiful views and lots of space for animals to roam and for us to build the farm of our dreams. We are proud to say that with the help of so many talented craftsmen, builders, farmers and friends, we have made our dream of sustainable farming a reality. Today we have a thriving farm with cows, goats, pigs, chickens, our horse Abel, our two dogs and cats. We've also added several family members to the growing team and we're happy to see a new generation who will take over this labor of love for many years to come.
